Read About Our Museum

Members of the Port Hastings Historical Society have been preserving the history of the greater Strait Area since the first meeting held in 1978. Initially, the history of crossing the Strait of Canso was researched and then documented. Following that, it was the construction of the  Canso Causeway and Canal in preparation for the 25th Anniversary of the Official Opening Celebrations.

We began to accumulate a wealth of information on the communities and people on both sides of the Strait of Canso. From Mulgrave across to Point Tupper through Port Hawkesbury, Port Hastings and the communties on the shoreline as far as Long Point and those back from the shore.

We are fortunate to have extensive collections in our archives that have been compiled by our staff as well as many that were donated.
